چکیده

Rabbit's eyes were exposed to various levels of measured illumination for four hours. Two sources with different spectral content were compared for their ability to cause retinal damage. The damage was assessed by ophthalmoscopy, electroretinography, and histology. The threshold for minimal detectable damage with a broad-spectrum source occurred around 0.045 watt per square centimeter. A monochromatic source at 514.5 nm. produced damage at one fifth this power level. When the tivo sources were matched by electroretinography for visual efficiency in the rabbit, the thresholds for damage were approximately equal. This shows that the visible portion of the spectrum is primarily responsible for retinal damage under these conditions.

PREVENTIVE EFFECTS OF VITAMIN A AND ASPIRIN ON UV LIGHT-INDUCED RETINOPATHY IN AN ANIMA L MODEL

In order to identify the effects of vitamin A and aspirin on reducing UV lightinduced retinopathy, ERG waves were compared before and after UV light exposure in rabbits. 30 rabbits were divided into 3 groups: the first group received vitamin A, 50,000 units I.M., single dose, the second group received aspirin, 50 mg/ kg/day PO and the third group did not receive any medication. All three gr...

P-18: The Effect of Extremly Low Frequency EMF on Epididymis In Rabbit

Background: Considerable attention is focused on effects of electromagnetic field (EMF) and its increasing use in everyday life. Appliances and various equipments are sources of electromagnetic field with a wide-range of technical characteristics. In this study we investigated the effect of EMF (950 MHz) on epididymis in rabbit. Materials and Methods: 18 Newzealand rabbits were selected and div...

The combined effects of light and acute ischemia on the structure of the rabbit retina: a light and electron microscopic study.

The ultrastructure of the rabbit retina has been investigated to determine the combined effects of light and ischemia. Both eyes of 16 adult Dutch rabbits were exposed to light of an intensity known to be near or below the threshold for ultrastructural changes in the retina. In addition, one eye of each animal was subjected to one of four periods of pressure-induced total acute ischemia. Exposu...
